i think a lot of the kids that are into "hardline" these days have no idea what it looked like in practice and what kind of kids were involved - and particularly how irrelevant they were and anti-climatic it was when hardline "collapsed" (or dissolved and went underground, depending on who you talk to).
like, the concept of a handful of mostly white suburban (repressed, mostly former christians) identifying as a "vanguard" is so cartoonish and pathetic. hardline, like black metal, is basically renaissance fair or civil war re-enactments for clueless teenagers into "extreme music".
