Border H.C. tape (attn. Tim/Pat)

I got a copy of this tape it has some pretty sick thrash bands from IB, SY, and SD. Can you shed any light on this scene?

I don't think I ever heard of Half Ass or Cyanide. I remember the name TFH, but don't remember anything about them. Local Harassment started as a band of Mexicans with narrow mohawks, probably one that was long hair pushed up into a mohawk. Sleeveless tshirts, flannels around the waist, and hand written names of mostly Uk bands. The did a cover of "Fuck a Mod". The "bass" player was a girl that played a guitar with an E and an A string, and the tone turned to no treble.

They played a backyard in CV near J and 5th with Amenity and used our amps and our drums. The police broke it up and said they would confiscate the equipment if they kept playing. The singer announced on the mic that they would play anyways and "fuck the police".

Oh, and I think it would be of interest to you, Matt, that the big guy Mohican drummer wouldn't hit the bass drums when he hit the crash cymbals. They were all nice people, but I think this gives you an idea of the kind of punk they were.

Then they played a party a year or two later and sounded really good. A lot like Septic Death or COC. What version of Local Harassment is on that tape?

Misguided Children played a lot around Chula Vista and National City. They were definitely a different element than the rest of the CV scene - beer, smoking, etc. Everybody got a long well though. They were much tighter sounding then Local Harassment's beginning, but just like them, all of a sudden they got really good at playing fast. I think this was as the original CV/NC/IB/SY started splintering into their own. The bass player (Matt) worked sound at the Casbah about 10 years ago (maybe he still does). The guitarist (Justin) has been in a lot of bands and still plays. The drummer still plays too. I think he does a lot of Bad Brains influenced stuff with different people.

i totally remember that guy matt from misguided children...i got knocked into a wall pretty hard by him in a pit once when i was a youngin'...haha. i think i had a flyer for that band at one point, but never actually heard them.

The LH stuff on the comp is of the inept varriety. I also have thier complete demo that is a lot tighter more thrash metal.
That comp tape is pretty mediocre. Lot's of live material. The best shit might be Half Ass just for the insane inept recording. In the live stuff there is a lot of telling the croud to "not be pussies" and "thanks to all the skinheads for coming out"

Once I get my tape deck situation figured out I'm going to rip it for you all. I was given about 400 SICK tapes that I need to go through.

What about Blood Lake from Vista? know those guys?
